“No Permit Necessary”
Located in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, Washington Square Park, AKA Bughouse Square, is a small piece of land with a big history. House of Bug Productions tells its story in “No Permit Necessary.”
“ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I FIND MOST INTERESTING — BUT ALSO KIND OF REASSURING — ABOUT BUGHOUSE SQUARE IS THAT IT REALLY WAS A SPACE WHERE FREE SPEECH WAS CHAMPIONED, AND ANYONE COULD SAY WHAT THEY WANTED TO SAY.”
— Paul Durica, Chicago History Museum Director of Exhibitions
The Start of “No Permit Necessary”
The inception of this project stemmed from a proposition to provide our cohort with an opportunity to collaborate on a project beyond the confines of the classroom. Following numerous discussions on potential topics and roles, we settled on the intriguing Washington Square Park, giving birth to "No Permit Necessary."
